The other smaller idea I had was to create and maintain a website for community radio stations. Broadcasting tips, funding contacts, technical ideas and discussion forums. The website could be a resource for community stations around the country. I did about three seconds of research and found this website:- http://www.communityradiotoolkit.net/
which does exactly what I was going to do! I don't think it's worth wasting any more time thinking about that idea.
Which brings me to my final idea I posted in the previous entry to this blog. To create a local music website. Let bands from around the Southwest upload their demo mp3s and create an artist profile. Set up a gig listings page, charts, local music news page, forums and blogs. This may not sound any different to just another Myspace site, but if I were to create a link with my local community radio station to give the artists with the most downloads each month some airtime, I think I can offer something a little different than your usual 'mp3 hosting service'.
